With the water so clear in the Upper Laguna Madre and Baffin Bay, I’m looking forward to some good lure fishing in the month of August. We are able to see the rock formations well when the water is clear like this. Also, the deep outside edges of the grass beds are easy to see as well. When we are fishing for redfish this time of year, we usually look for them early in the mornings. They often push wakes when they move to get out of the way of the boat if we pass reasonably close to them. Later in the day, the bright skies and Clearwater have been allowing us to keep track of the schools even when they move out in the middle. We look for reddish-gold patches in the water when we’re working that drill. Trout fishing is the best in relatively deep water most of the time this month. All the major rock formations in Baffin have great potential this time of year. Our catching is usually best on soft plastics worked low in the water column.
