May is a great month to target speckle trout and redfish in Corpus Christi. We have excellent fishing in a variety of places this month. The best locations vary daily as the weather changes. If it’s windy out of the southeast, the area around Shamrock Cove and East Flats in Corpus Christi Bay produces good red and trout catches. Those nocks and crannies over there benefit from the strong east and southeast winds blowing the water out in other places. Of course, the fishing is often excellent in the Land Cut when it’s windy, too. The flats adjacent to the entrance of the north end of the Land Cut, places like Summer House Flats and the Gutters, and Rocky Slough produce excellent catches during the middle of spring every year. Top water and twitch baits work well most days, and sight casting with a paddle tail can be perfect, too, especially when the winds aren’t too calm. If the weather is more relaxed, fishing for monster trout and redfish is better on the King Ranch Shoreline and around the rocks in Baffin Bay.
