I run a 18 foot Curlew boat powered by a 115 HP Mercury. This boat is equipped with a Bob’s jack plate, poling platform and the new Strip and Feed Ultimate Fly Basket, great for controlling your fly line. The front deck has plenty room for both the fly caster and the stripping basket. The Curlew is extremely stable and offers a smooth and dry ride. My boat has plenty of dry storage for tackle and other client gear. The Curlew floats in 7 inches of water and will get up in 10 inches. This means we can go just about anywhere we want to find fish.
Fly fishing the flats for redfish and trout can be challenging, good tackle is essential and I can provide you with the best. I offer Thomas & Thomas Horizon Saltwater Series Rods and Abel Reels. Additionally, please feel free to bring your own favorite fly rod and reel. Here are the fly line I like to use, weight forward 8-F, saltwater and bone fish taper. My leaders are hand tied and range from 9 to 12 feet with 10 to 15 pound test tippets. Good flies to use are Shrimp and Crab patterns on size 2-4-6 hooks. In the winter months you will need to bring a pair of waders. The rest of the year flats boots are all you will need to wade the flats.
